AP ART PORTFOLIO and SCHOLARSHIPS INFORMATION

Create a two-page notebook for each college you are considering. Bring it to your parents before applying. This simple system keeps important information organized and helps reduce stress throughout the application process. Include the following information for each school:

Do these things:

• *keep the grades up and score well on testing
• *do the ap portfolio as a junior and senior
• *apply to 10 plus schools
• GPA: the most important factor in scholarship and financial assistance is the GPA score. Testing scores also carry a lot of weight. It may be well worth the investment of a tutor if one area of testing needs help.
• AP Portfolio: the ap portfolio helps in a few ways. If the student does the ap portfolio as a junior, and scores well, they can include the score in the application process in the fall of their senior year. Further, the worked produced at the portfolio can be used in the portfolios required by many of the more prestigious schools (the usually want to see 8-10 pieces).
• When a student does the ap as a senior, they won’t get their score back until they have already made their choice of schools. A good ap score and attending private art school can be used to bypass entry level drawing and painting classes, saving time, money and freeing up the students schedule to take other courses.
• If a student has scholarship offers from schools a and b, but they were hoping to attend school c (who may not have a scholarship offer, or it is less than schools a and b) the student can use the offers from a and b to try to leverage a better offer from school c.
• If parents have saved in a 529 plan, it is our understanding that those funds may be returned, penalty free, equal to the amount of the scholarship.
• Internships can be as lucrative as scholarships in offsetting tuition expense.
